Appreciate A Dragon Day!

Today is, apparently, Appreciate A Dragon Day, so in honor of that, I bring you a little angel-dragon cheer:

angelcuddle

The angels in my novel don’t fight dragons. The angels in Seven Archangels: Annihilation aren’t quite this cuddly, nor are most dragons. But hey, that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate them.

And let’s not forget that dragons can appreciate us too. Any dragon worth his hoard appreciates a good electric guitar solo.

Please leave a comment in honor of your favorite dragon. After the nasty stuff that happens in the Book of Revelation, they really need some good PR.

Yesterday, at the yarn store, I held up a skein of Jitterbug in red and asked if it looked “dragony” enough. I want to do the Dragon Breath Socks (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dragon-breath-socks-2 but you must be on Ravelry to see it). The woman said no, because dragons, being lizards, should be green. I don’t want green socks, so I went with the red anyway. Glad to see a photo of a red wyrm in the wild. 🙂

If it were the opposite temperature extreme, I’d put in a “go dragon” for Apep, the dragon from Egyptian mythology who was thought to swallow the sun barge. At the moment, I’ll call Silvara a favorite.

Dinosaurs were apparently multicolored, so why not dragons? Why be boring and keep them green all the time?

As for Apep, I’ll just admire him from a distance, okay?

  3. I love all the AADD -Appreciate a Dragon Day foo-fa-lah! My grandsons and I are going out to lunch and taking our little dragons with us.

  4. Well, my favorite dragon is Vern, a cynical dragon detective from the Faerie world. I love writing him and have two novelizations of his cases coming out this year.

    Check out his website, http://www.dragoneyepi.net.

    Dragons! Dragons dragons dragons dragons!

    Love ’em! 🙂

Had I known, I would have worn my dragon sweatshirt today, instead of my college one. Oh well.

I haven’t thought about her for years, but back when I loved re-reading The Dragonriders Of Pern novels, I had my own dragon. She was a green named Kilenth.

And yes, I know she was totally imaginary, non-canon, and never even written into a story. But in some respect, she was mine, and I appreciated her. 🙂

We are taking our dragons out to eat at Texas Roadhouse. I will try to post some pictures on my blog this evening.

  8. My favorite dragon is still Smaug. I know, big surprise coming from the family Tolkien geek. I love the conversation with Bilbo and his simultaneous cleverness and monstrous power.

I liked the Pern dragons too, but overall they’re too friendly for my tastes.

kiddo was a dragon for halloween a few years back. playing with the thomas set made me laugh imagining poor scared people in the train who just got picked up by a giant dragon not realizing it only ate candy that night.

  10. I got some pictures of the dragons at the steakhouse. They are on my website under Dragon Bloggin’

  11. philangelus says:

Er, doesn’t Gymn eat bugs? Do they even serve that at Texas Roadhouse?

  12. The dragons with us that night seemed to be fascinated by the peanuts. We didn’t see any bugs.

  13. philangelus says:

So no “blooming tarantula”? How about “tempura fried nematodes”?
